- One World Art Night (Ms. Bertuccelli) Thursday February 27th at 5pm on Campus
- Lala’s is donating 15% to Melrose for dine in or take out customers 4:30pm – 7pm
- School Yard Rap performance and history of African American experience
- Taico Drummers
- Families can create “Picasso” style portraits & Mexican tin art
- Volunteers needed
- Ms. Bertuccelli is retiring in June 🙁 after 30 years at Melrose
- Melrose Games Animal Olympics on May 2nd during the school day
- Second largest fundraiser of the year with a goal of $110k this year
- Funds things at Melrose like filmmaking, theater production, catalina, disneyland, etc.
- Fundraising starts March 1
- T-shirt logo artwork contest ends Feb 26 and kids will vote during lunch on Feb 27
- Artwork needs to be in black and white and include “Melrose Games Animalympics”
- Looking for corporate sponsors
- $500 donation, fully tax deductible

- LAUSD’s Response to Potential Immigration Enforcement
- Immigration enforcement has not (in the past) come to schools during the 1st Trump Administration
- LAUSD is a sanctuary District and safe zone for families threatened by immigration enforcement
- LAUSD has a non-discrimination policy
- student information is confidential and will not be shared by Melrose
- LAUSD personnel does not and will not inquire about immigration status and will not ask for social security numbers
- If immigration officers come to school, principal notifies LAUSD operations and LAUSD school police, and activate School Site Crisis Team
- Resources outside of school
- CalNEW serves socioeconomically disadvantaged newcomer students, unaccompanied undocumented minors, english-learners and immigrant families
- Immigration help may be available from state-funded nonprofit organizations
- CalHOPE (833-317-HOPE) provides telephone based services and interpretation over 240 languages
- 988 = Suicide and Crisis Lifeline (offers interpretation in over 240 languages)
- Red Cards are available at the front office. These inform you of your rights and also can be presented should you be approached.
- LAUSD has their own police department
- They do not arrest or have guns
- They exist to keep us safe and would be called should ICE show up
- There has been some concern about the Department of Education dismantling
- Very little funding comes to schools through the federal government (approx. 6%), most funding comes from CA taxpayers
- LAUSD’s Phone Free Policy: Phase 2
- Phones, watches, Meta glasses, etc need to be in backpacks during the school day
- If students need to call home, talk to a grownup
