- PTO Fundraising Experience Survey
- PTO is asking the Melrose Community to fill out a short anonymous survey to help improve fundraising efforts, set meaningful goals, and maximize impact at Melrose
- Survey is open between now and February 28th

- Community Coffee Hour this Fri at 8am in the Parent Center
- Informal meet and greet with other parents and guardians
- Ms. Miyaji will be in attendance
- Beautification on Saturday, March 14th, 9am-12pm
- Native garden tending
- Tidying, trash pickup, wiping surfaces
- Lost and found organizing and cleaning
- Repaint the circles and stars
- Volunteer here

- Melrose Games Animalympics on Friday, May 1st from 8:30am-2:30pm
- Specific grade level times will be announced soon
- T-shirt contest due Wednesday February 25th
- Students will vote on the t-shirt drawing on Monday, March 2nd
- Looking for t-shirt sponsors ($500)
- Fratelli’s, El Coyote, Philly’s Best, Pink’s are already signed up
- Looking for In-Kind donations ($25 & up)
- In-kind donations will be handed out throughout the fundraising time to students that have raised the most, has donations from the furthest away, etc.

- January Highlights
- Astronomy night: a lot of students and parents enjoying the telescope, planetarium, etc.
- 100th Day of School
- Monday Morning Assembly: share a message, talent, project, etc.
- Monday Morning Clean-ups
- Clean up the perimeter of school after the weekend
- Gloves, bags and trash picker-uppers provided
- Positive Behavior and Safety Committee
- 1st meeting with a variety of grade level caregivers participating
- Brainstormed ideas between caregivers, teachers and playground aids
- Using “stay in place” as a schoolwide term when students need to stay where they are temporarily
- Water bottles and backpacks will remain inside the classroom
- Supervision aides will sweep the yard after recess to retrieve any water bottles, items, etc.
- Students are not always asking for help when there’s a problem even though there are adults on the yard
- Please emphasize with your students that problems need to be resolved with words and include an adult to support
- Outreach Theater
- Starting next week on Wednesday and continuing for the following 5 weeks
- Role playing, allowing space to talk, encouraging students to participate in the solution
- Safety
- Please discourage your student from bringing Aluminum Cans and Glass Bottles
- Aluminum cans are being brought to school in the AM and then students crush them making them have sharp edges
- Glass bottles could result in broken glass which is also dangerous
- Students leaving morning assembly in groups going to the restroom together
- Sometimes it is giggles and fine, other times it is mean-spirited

- Friendship Day this Friday the 13th raising money for potential Griffith Observatory Schoolwide Field Trip
- Dress like a twin with a friend or twin with Mrs. Jackson and wear a melrose shirt
- Friendship grams are being sold as a fundraiser for busses to go to Griffith Observatory with families on a Friday Evening
- Friendship grams are $2/each
- Students can select a template and fill in a note to their friend with a “rose” pen
- Parents can purchase friendship grams for students if they email their teacher and/or bring cash to the front office
- Participants will be selected via raffle
- World Art Night is Thursday February 26th
- Parent Workshop on Literacy on Feb 24 from 3-4pm in the Parent Center
- Interactive family workshop with fun, practical ways to support reading and writing at home
- 5th Grade Catalina Trip
- Intent to participate deadline is tomorrow February 12th by 5pm
- School experience survey
- Link for the survey (in multiple languages) was included in the sunday message
- Asking all families to complete so we can gather important feedback about your thoughts on academics and school climate
- School repairs
- Buzzer: we’re waiting for a part to arrive
- Bathrooms: Mrs. Jackson has a meeting tomorrow morning and will hopefully have updates to share after that
